What To Do When We Fear The Pain
This episode was inspired by Dr. Mike’s recent spearfishing trip 100 miles offshore Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. He admits that although he is a risk-taker and loves adventure, he fears the unknown when he dives in the ocean. We all have mechanisms of fear built inside of us to keep us alive but when it comes to body pain, our fears are often unnecessary. These fears can be inflated by the words we hear from healthcare professionals that bring light to worst-case scenarios and negative outcomes about our bodies.
When we fear pain, he advises us to seek to understand- Educate yo self! Learn about the mechanics of the injury and how to strengthen your body into alignment. Implement what you learn into your daily movement and watch how your fear becomes replaced with confidence!
